The Wilderness Foundation (a charity registered in both England & Wales and in Scotland) was founded in 1976.
Our aims are: (i) to use the outdoors, nature and wilderness experiences to bring about measurable, positive change within disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, enabling them to lead a healthy and active life and to become leaders in their communities and improve their self-esteem and resilience; (ii) to preserve wild spaces in the UK, through education and experience of young people.
To achieve these aims, we run a range of social and educational projects in the outdoors and nature, some of which focus on real ‘wilderness experience’ for disadvantaged young people, developing leadership skills linked to informed knowledge of social and environmental issues and personal experiences of improved health and wellbeing through spending time in these environments.
