Community Wellness Outreach Project Officer – closing date 17 July 2024

Reading Voluntary Action (RVA) is looking to recruit a Project Officer to join the Community Wellness Outreach (CWO) project.

About the Community Wellness Outreach (CWO) project

The CWO project runs in Reading until the end of June 2025, offering opportunities for the community to receive a free NHS health check and advice to improve their health. This partnership project is funded by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to pilot outreach activities which reduce health inequalities for our most vulnerable communities. The programme is open to all, but people at risk of developing cardiovascular conditions are a priority.

RVA is working with specialist nurses from Meet PEET (Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust), GP surgeries, the Primary Care Alliance, and voluntary sector partners, to run health and wellbeing outreach sessions in community settings across Reading. Reading Borough Council is providing project governance and support. The aim is to have achieved 5,200 full NHS health checks by June 2025.

Summary of the role
  • Fixed term to 30 June 2025 – possible extension.
  • 28 hours a week across Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (flexible working will be considered to a minimum of 14 hours a week)

The CWO Project Officer will join a small and friendly team providing the outreach sessions. The primary responsibility of the role is to enable participants at risk of poor cardio health to make changes to improve their health outcomes. The successful candidate is likely to be motivated to overcome health inequalities and have some understanding of good cardio health. They will enjoy frontline work in the community and may speak languages in addition to English (for example, Urdu or Arabic) which can improve our engagement with communities in Reading. Please note that this role involves some weekend and early evening work. Full training and an induction period will be provided.
