The Queen Victoria Fund Reading (QVFR) has recently launched as a grant making charity with the primary aim of funding public health initiatives that help reduce health inequalities
Who can apply?
QVFR will fund organisations working within the Reading Borough Council and Earley Town Council areas including charities, voluntary and community groups. Organisations do not need to be registered with the Charity Commission or Companies House provided that they are properly constituted with their own bank accounts and responsible officers such as Manager, Chair and Treasurer.
Organisations will need to demonstrate how their health-related project benefits local people
Organisations must demonstrate they have a need for additional funding and those with significant reserves will need to explain why the reserves cannot be used
What are the funding priorities?
QVFR will prioritise initiatives that prevent ill health and address health inequities. These might include perinatal inequalities, positive action on obesity and weight loss, alcohol misuse, children’s nourishment and child socialisation. QVFR will also consider funding initiatives which address mental health issues, including clinical depression and certain forms of addictive behaviours such as gambling.
Further details of grants and how to apply
QVFR will consider applications for small grants, below £2000, grants between £2,000 and £5,000, and may, in exceptional cases, make grants larger than £5000.
It is expected that most grants will be for revenue and equipment for particular projects. Whilst contributions to salaries and office costs may be considered for time limited projects, applications for core running costs will not normally be considered.

The closing date for the first round of funding will be 28th February 2026
