The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK changing the world for people affected by stroke, offering support to over 60,000 stroke survivors, carers and families every year to ensure they get the help they need.
The Stroke Association helps people by providing long term social and peer support, organising events and opportunities to meet together, this reduces isolation at a key time and also helps members rebuild their confidence.
The Reading Stroke Support group meets on the first and third Thursday of the month and offers stroke survivors a friendly and supportive environment to gain confidence and independence. In the meetings, we enjoy seated exercise, visiting speakers, various activities and a friendly chat.
If you have excellent communication skills, you enjoy the company of others and know how to create a welcoming and supportive environment we would love to hear from you.
We specifically need some help at the beginning and end of the meetings organising the room, moving tables and chairs.
This is an excellent opportunity to engage with your local community, helping provide an important service as part of a well-respected charity. Giving you practical experience working with people affected by stroke, you will make a real difference to their lives. It will also give you the opportunity to make new friends. You will be part of a lovely and lively team of volunteers
