Help us provide a free confidential Counselling service to young people in Reading

Counselling qualified volunteers needed for Private: Time to Talk Reading in RG1

We are recruiting volunteers to to provide a safe counselling space for exploration and growth at Time to Talk, a growing counselling service currently providing support for young people (13-19)

We offer free counselling to young people both at our Central Library base and in local schools. We help our young clients to overcome a wide range of issues from anxiety and anger to OCD and self-harm. We are currently broadening our service to include online counselling.

Volunteer counsellors will:

  • Provide 3-4 50 minute counselling sessions per week.
  • Liaise with volunteer support workers and Time to Talk staff.
  • Complete centre forms relevant to counselling.
  • Work in accordance with BACP guidelines including supervision.

We welcome enquiries from qualified counsellors and from students in the latter stages of their training (working towards level 4 or above) looking for a placement. Your training could be in any counselling model. Experience of working with young people is desirable but not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your counselling experience and gain recorded counselling hours whilst making a difference to the lives of young people. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team who value the sharing of knowledge, ideas and experiences and  our passionate about the work and the difference it makes.

A regular commitment of a few hours each week is required. In return we offer our team a comfortable and appropriate environment in which to practise and on going training and support.

We think your love working with us. But don’t take our word for it, here is what some of our volunteers say about us:

“From the very moment at my interview, I saw excellent things and knew that it was a place I wanted to be at” (Neo – Volunteer Counsellor)

“It’s a real pleasure to work with such compassionate and enthusiastic people and to feel part of something so vital and worthwhile” (Vix – Counselling Service Assistant)
