Could you provide companionship and practical support to people facing the end of their life?

Befriending / Visiting volunteers needed for Sue Ryder-Duchess of Kent Hospice

People who are facing the end of their life can often feel lonely and isolated. Our volunteer befrienders help by providing companionship and practical support.

You could help someone to spend the time they have left in the way they choose by:

  • Providing companionship and conversation
  • Sharing an activity or interest (e.g. craft, board games)
  • ‘Being there’ while the carer takes a break
  • Providing company on short trips (e.g. shopping, coffee)
  • Helping with small practical tasks (e.g. collecting a prescription)

Visits could be between half an hour to a couple of hours, depending on the needs of the person you’re befriending and your schedule.

You can visit the person you befriend at a time that suits you both and visits don’t have to be at the same day/time each week.

Full training, support, and monthly supervisions are provided.
