Are you a regular internet user who would like to help others to gain digital skills? We are looking for Digital Champions to help get more people in Reading online.
In the digital age essential services are being increasingly accessed online, and those without the opportunity and skills to access online services will inevitably be at a disadvantage. Reading Voluntary Action is pleased to be supporting the council’s Digital Inclusion project, where volunteers will be helping at drop-in sessions to get more people online.
We are looking for volunteers to support computer users who are unfamiliar with using the internet and email. Volunteers will be working with visitors to help them get started with their own laptop, tablet or smartphone, or on the computer equipment supplied at the venue. Our sessions are at regular times, mostly daytime on weekdays, and last 1-2 hours.
Generally volunteers will be expected to have basic computer skills and experience of using email and the internet for accessing online services. There will be an induction session for volunteers and some additional online training can be provided.
The project is based in Reading Central Library with additional sessions at other libraries and community venues around Reading, and we are constantly looking for new venues. For more information on the project including a full calendar of events please visit www.go-reading.org. During the Covid-19 pandemic we were only offering remote support – we are now starting to open up again so more venues will appear on the website soon.
