Mapledurham Community Energy will be constructed at the Mapledurham Estate four miles North West of Reading. It will comprise an Anaerobic Digester and a Central Heat and Power generator. It will generate renewable energy from cattle waste (slurry) and maize silage, reducing the carbon footprint of our community and reducing the need for fossil-fuel powered electricity. The other product that comes from a digester will be “digestate” which is a high quality fertiliser that can be used on the Estate and elsewhere.
MCE is a Community Benefit organisation, giving local people the opportunity to own and participate in the operation and governance of this renewable facility. The profits from MCE will feed into a charitable organisation that will hold these funds for the benefit of the Mapledurham community and others within a 12 mile radius who wish to invest in other low-carbon projects.
