Welfare Benefits Caseworker – closing date 31 March 2023

Skills Required:

1. knowledge of the benefits system or ability to learn on the job, with training.
2. Support clients to claim benefits and also through the mandatory reconsideration and tribunal appeal stages
3. Strong advocacy skills, including an ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing in a persuasive, professional manner.

Key work areas and tasks:
  • Prepare cases to the appropriate statutory bodies and tribunals as appropriate.
  • Maintain case records on our casework software and on Outlook.
Person specification:
  • Knowledge of rules relating to UC, PIP, HB and Council tax exemption.
  • Effective oral communication skills with an emphasis on negotiating and representing.
  • Effective written skills with a strong emphasis on negotiating, representing and preparing reports, reviews and correspondence.
  • A methodical approach to casework and an ability and willingness to follow and develop agreed procedures.
  • Understand the issues involved in interviewing clients.
  • You must be numerate and literate.
  • Ability to prioritise your own work, meet deadlines and manage caseloads.
  • Ability to use IT to provide advice, to be able to record case notes and prepare reports, letters and submissions.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
