We are running a detailed PIP training session on 15 March 2023 from 1am – 1pm on Google Meet
The course is course open to anyone who wants to know more about PIP, filling in the form, and being confident about initial Mandatory Reconsideration/appeal advice.
The session has been designed for someone working towards becoming a Generalist Adviser, Benefits Specialist or looking for a refresher, so won’t be covering the basics of PIP. To get the most from it, you’ll need to be fairly familiar with:
- What PIP is
- The basic eligibility criteria
- What the components are and their differences
- A little bit about the descriptors and scoring
- The stages in assessment
The aims of the course are:
1. To gain a firm understanding of how answers about activities turns into points scored by matching the descriptors
2. To understand some of the reasons clients are failed at assessment
3. To know how to confidently advise someone if they should or shouldn’t be entitled to PIP, including after having a claim rejected
There will be a mix of theory (looking at section 7 and section 4 of the PIP regulations) and exercises around filling in the PIP form and giving reasons at Mandatory Reconsideration.
This course is aimed at volunteers and staff at Citizens Advice so we’ll also cover the use of some of our internal tools. However the topics are valid for advisers in any setting so we are opening it up to a wider audience.
Places are £50 each, with a 10% discount for multiple bookings. If you’re interested, please email training.services@citizensadvicereading.org to book your place
