Dementia awareness training free for VCS staff and volunteers 2025

Wednesday 22 January 2025
Designed for frontline staff & volunteers, active in local VCOs, looking to develop & enrich their awareness of dementia.

Reading Voluntary Action has received funding to deliver an in-person 16-month Community Wellbeing Training Programme in our town centre training suite, for health and wellbeing practitioners (open to paid staff and volunteers) active in local voluntary and community organisations (VCOs).

By the end of this course participants will have knowledge of
  • what dementia is
  • how it presents
  • tools and techniques to support people with dementia
  • how to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by this challenging condition.

Younger People with Dementia (YPWD) is a registered charity which was set up in 2012 to fill a gap in provision for those with young onset dementia and their family and carers. Our aim is to support people diagnosed and living with young onset dementia (YOD) under the age of 65 through providing meaningful and age-appropriate services, whilst also delivering support sessions for family members and loved ones. The support provided gives participants opportunities to socialise and take part in meaningful activities which have been shown to enhance mood, reduce stress, build confidence and maintain skills. At the same time families and carers benefit from respite while their loved one attends our support sessions.
