Community networking, film screening, live fitness challenge, and community lunch planned for 19 June 2025 in Reading, UK

In recognition of World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, local charity Cianna’s Smile is proud to announce a new partnership as charity bursary partners with The Oracle shopping centre and invite the public to a day of awareness, empowerment, and community action on Thursday 19 June 2025.

The event will begin with a light lunch and refreshments followed by a screening of “Life in Your Blood”, a powerful and informative docudrama exploring the lived experiences of individuals with sickle cell. The screening will take place at 1:50pm, followed by a Q&A session and an opportunity for local businesses, healthcare professionals and community organisations to network.

“We’re honoured to partner with The Oracle to raise awareness about a condition that affects over 15,000 people in the UK, yet remains widely misunderstood,” said Hayley King, founder of Cianna’s Smile. “This event is a chance to bring the community together, share stories that matter, and invite people to take action.”

From 2:00pm to 7:00 pm, the public is invited to take part in a high-energy “Sit Ups for Sickle Cell” challenge, held in the main mall. Participants will be encouraged to complete as many sit-ups as they can, with scores tracked live on a leader board. Donations raised will go directly towards funding a summer respite break for children living with sickle cell and their families – offering much-needed rest, joy and connection.

Fitness clubs, schools, workplaces, and individuals are all welcome to take part. Those interested in participating or supporting can email events@ciannassmile.co.uk or simply turn up and join in on the day.
