Introduction – overview of the funding

With this funding, they want to help strengthen communities and improve lives. Their funding is available to all communities but their priority is the places, people and communities that need it most.

When they say ‘community’, they mean people who live in the same area. Or people with similar interests or life experiences, even if they do not live in the same area.

Who is eligible to apply?

You can apply if your organisation works with communities in England and is a:

  • voluntary or community organisation with a written constitution
  • registered charity
  • charitable incorporated organisation (CIO)
  • not-for-profit company limited by guarantee
  • community interest company (CIC)
  • school
  • public body (for example, local authority, town, parish or community council)
  • community benefit society (registered with the Financial Conduct Authority)
  • co-operative society (also registered with the Financial Conduct Authority)

You can apply as a single organisation or as a partnership so long as all organisations meet the above criteria. You will need a partnership agreement (see support from RVA below).

What are the funder priorities?

They are most likely to fund projects that:

  • support places, people or communities experiencing poverty, disadvantage or discrimination
  • support people and communities to shape the decisions that affect their lives

Your project must help achieve one of the following missions, which are to support communities to:

  • come together through inclusive places, spaces and activities (either physical or virtual), especially for communities where people are least able to come together
  • help children and young people thrive by developing positive social and emotional skills
  • be healthier by addressing health inequalities and helping prevent poor health
  • be environmentally sustainable by engaging with climate issues, having a positive environmental impact, and improving access to quality natural spaces

You can read more here about the funder’s priorities and the types of projects they are looking to fund.

How much can organisations apply for?

You can apply for a grant between £20,001 to £20,000,000

They fund all kinds of projects, from smaller grants, like £50,000 to help an organisation develop, to larger ones for work across several regions.

Most of the funding they give is for less than £500,000. If you want to ask for more, speak to the local Funding Officer first.

You can ask for funding to run your project for up to 5 years.

What the funding can be used for

You can apply for funding to:

  • deliver activities in your community
  • develop your organisation
