Working in partnership with Reading Borough Council, re3 and Millbrook Healthcare, a dedicated community equipment recycling point has now been established at the re3 Recycling Centre on Island Road, Reading RG2 0RP, where Reading residents can recycle unused health and social care equipment and help other people in our community.
Residents should book a visit to the site in advance through the re3 booking system.
Residents can return equipment that is no longer required so that it can be inspected, cleaned, repaired where necessary and reused by other residents who may benefit from it.
What equipment can be returned?
Residents can return a range of small community equipment items including:
- Walking sticks
- Crutches
- Walking frames and rollators
- Perching stools
- Shower stools
- Toilet frames and raised toilet seats
- Pressure cushions
- Small bathing aids
- Small daily living aids such as grabbers and non-slip mats
Equipment should be clean before being returned.

There is a special metal cage at the re3 Recycling Centre, Island Road, Reading, RG2 0RP. Book a visit to the recycling centre here.
What happens to the equipment?
Equipment is collected by Millbrook Healthcare and undergoes a thorough safety inspection, cleaning and sanitisation process before being returned to circulation where appropriate. This enables equipment that may only have been needed for a short period to support another resident, promoting independence and reducing demand for new equipment.
What if residents cannot transport equipment?
For residents who are unable to visit the recycling centre, or where the equipment is too large to transport, Millbrook Healthcare provides a free collection service from the resident’s home. Collections can be arranged by calling 0118 228 8701.
