RVA is seeking to appoint a new Treasurer to join our experienced trustee board
The Treasurer oversees the financial affairs of Reading Voluntary Action and ensures they are conducted in accordance with legal requirements, good practice, and the organisation’s ethical values. RVA employs an in-house bookkeeper. The Treasurer supports the board in maintaining sound financial management and accountability.
About us
As the local infrastructure organisation for the voluntary and community sector (VCS), Reading Voluntary Action exists to promote and support the individuals and groups who make up our diverse VCS. The four areas of our work are leadership and advocacy; partnerships and collaborations; capacity building and volunteering.
We are guided by principles of integrity, transparency, inclusion, and responsible stewardship of resources.
We are seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and help ensure the charity remains financially strong, well governed, and able to deliver lasting impact.
The role
As Treasurer, you will provide financial oversight and help the board make informed decisions. You will not manage day-to-day bookkeeping, but you will help ensure the charity’s finances are well managed and reported appropriately.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring the charity’s financial position and reporting to the board
- Helping prepare and oversee budgets
- Reviewing management accounts and financial reports
- Supporting the preparation of annual accounts
- Ensuring appropriate financial controls and procedures are in place
- Contributing to strategic discussions as a trustee
Who we are looking for
We welcome applications from people with:
- Financial, accounting, bookkeeping, banking, audit, or business experience
- Good analytical skills and attention to detail
- The ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues
- A commitment to ethical governance and the charity’s mission
- Able to commit approximately 3–5 hours per month, plus attendance at trustee meetings
Previous charity experience is welcome but not essential. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who can bring diverse perspectives and lived experiences to our board.
