Introduction – overview of the funding
The Asda Foundation recognises the importance of having safe and accessible outdoor spaces in communities across the UK.
The Outdoor Community Spaces fund aims at supporting grassroots community groups to improve safe and accessible outdoor spaces across the UK. Whether it’s cleaning up a green space, delivering collaborative growing projects or transforming an unused area for local people to meet and be together.
Who is eligible to apply?
This grant is for community groups who are looking to improve or transform an outdoor space near them, particularly for marginalised or vulnerable groups of people.
What are the funder priorities?
Priority will be given to projects which meet at least one of the following aims:
- Transform an outdoor area, creating greener and more engaging community spaces.
- Create or enhance community growing projects.
- Enable community clean ups*
*Grants for community clear ups only will be capped at £500.
How much can organizations apply for?
Grants ranging from £500 – £3,000 are available
What the funding can be used for
Examples of eligible projects include (but not limited to):
- Materials to build and transform outdoor areas (e.g. planters, raised beds, benches, paint).
- Equipment to be able to deliver a community clear up (e.g. litter pickers, bin bags, hi-vis vests).
- Machinery hire/purchase (e.g. rotavator hire).
- Permanent fixtures and features (e.g. sheds, outdoor furniture, pathways, gates and fencing).
- Gardening tools and equipment (e.g. spades, wheelbarrows, polytunnels, water butts, compost bins).
- Plants, shrubs, trees, bulbs, etc.
Is there a deadline?
The funding round opens at noon on 14 January and closes at noon on 11 February 2025.
The application window may close early if the total budget is reached.
