Social media volunteer needed for Reading Dementia Action Alliance

Reading Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) aims to promote and sustain the town as a dementia friendly community by

  • Seeking membership from local organisations
  • Ensure the voices of people affected by Dementia are heard
  • Raise awareness of Dementia across local communities

The DAA digital marketing volunteer will be responsible for setting up and building a following for the Reading DAA Twitter and Facebook accounts. The purpose of the accounts will be to share information about the work of the Alliance, encourage new membership from local organisations, raise awareness of Dementia across local communities and engaging others in becoming more Dementia friendly.

Tasks

  • Set up and manage the DAA Twitter and Facebook accounts
  • Post articles on social media outlets relevant to work of Reading DAA
  • Update and maintain the DAA website
  • Ensure the voices of people affected by Dementia are heard
  • Raise awareness of Dementia across local communities

General tasks could also include (with your agreement and depending on your capacity)

  • Attend relevant events to promote work of Reading DAA
  • Take part in relevant subgroups of Reading DAA (e.g transport/retail/community specific)
  • Assist in local area research
  • Raising profile of Dementia Friendly Communities through posters and leaflet distribution
  • Assisting at consultations for people with dementia and their carers

Meetings take place at The Blade, Abbey Square, in the centre of Reading. Most tasks can be carried out either from home or from hot desking space on the 3rd floor of Reading Central Library.

Volunteers will be invited to take part in a Dementia Friends training session to understand more about the condition.

The steering group will identify a key point of contact for each volunteer. The volunteer will also get support at steering group meetings. by phone, email and in person depending on where the work is being carried out.
