
Reading Mencap is seeking new volunteers to join its small, friendly trustee board and help shape the future direction of the organisation.
Reading Mencap provide a range of different services aimed at improving the quality of life for adults and children with a learning disability and their families. Services include information and advice, its highly regarded family support service, innovative Mencap Enables (ME) Day Activity Service and clubs, events and outings.
We are particularly keen to hear from potential trustees who have an interest in learning disability, including parents of children or adults with a learning disability. We would also like to hear from potential trustees who have expertise in marketing, IT and building maintenance.
Trustees work alongside a small group of staff in guiding the charity, ensuring its continuing good governance and effective practice.
Responsibilities of the roles include:
- Attending bi-monthly Management Committee meetings and joining with the other trustees to make specific and strategic decisions about the business and direction of the charity
- Being responsive to and knowledgeable about changes in local and national government policy and legislation concerning children and adults with LDD and their carers
- supporting the society with attendance at major fundraising and publicity events, time allowing
- volunteering to represent the society on a forum or steering group, time allowing
- attending the AGM
Leslie Macdonald, chair of trustees, said this is an exciting time for Reading Mencap with the development of a new business plan which aims to help the charity overcome key challenges to ensure it can continue to deliver its services for many years to come;

Full induction is given and all applicants will be DBS checked.
