Henley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society is a small Charitable organisation which requires a new Honorary Treasurer. It is run by a Management committee of Trustees, on which the Treasurer sits, which has monthly meetings, with occasional additional meetings as required.
In addition to dealing with the financial matters the treasurer is required to produce a simple report for the meetings showing transactions in the previous month and the financial results of Productions or other events.
The society does not operate a fully computerized accounts system, so where the Treasurer is not familiar with Charity Accounts the records can be maintained on spreadsheets or a manual cash book and the information sent to the Auditors for review and production of the annual accounts, but basic book-keeping skills or financial knowledge are required.
A certain amount of knowledge of Charity regulations would also be helpful, and online banking is used.
The Treasurer is responsible for operation of the bank accounts, cash management, banking of bar or other cash takings, budgeting, and production of accounts to show the result of each activity. Normally there are two or three theatrical productions a year, in addition to other activities
The society is not liable to VAT or other taxation, but the Treasurer is expected to deal with grant claims or statutory returns as required, to liaise with the auditor on the annual accounts and to assist the secretary in filing the annual Charity return.
