We are seeking volunteers to be part of the growth and development of our Time to Talk counselling service for young people.
Time to Talk offers free counselling to young people (13-19) across Reading. We help our young clients to overcome a wide range of issues from anxiety and anger to OCD and self-harm.
As a volunteer Counselling Service Assistant you will act as the friendly face of our service, helping the young people feel welcome before and after counselling. Other duties will include;
- Admit and record attendance of clients and counsellors.
- See clients out after sessions.
- Answer phone and face to face queries.
- Locking up with counsellor if out of hours.
Volunteers will also support the service by undertaking administrative tasks tailored to their strengths and development needs as time permits.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to gain an insight into how a counselling service works. You will also have the chance to meet new people, gain new and develop existing skills and build confidence.
You don’t need any specific experience or skills to join our team but a friendly personality and respect for confidentiality is essential. Some experience, or a willingness to learn, basic IT skills is also desirable.
If you’re looking to volunteer we think your love working with us. But don’t take our word for it, here is what some of our volunteers say about us:
“From the very moment at my interview, I saw excellent things and knew that it was a place I wanted to be at” (Neo – Volunteer Counsellor)
“It’s a real pleasure to work with such compassionate and enthusiastic people and to feel part of something so vital and worthwhile” (Vix – Counselling Service Assistant)
