Heritage, Identity and Belonging – inclusion in support for people facing loneliness
Our June Befriending Forum highlighted the role of dance – from two different local communities – in connecting people through an activity from a shared cultural heritage. Reading has a wealth of opportunities to socially connect, but for people who experience exclusion in many areas of their life – including micro-aggressions through to hate crimes – it’s essential that there’s somewhere to go to feel welcome, relaxed and meet people who share at least one of their characteristics.

  • In this Forum event, a number of local community organisations will be sharing how they offer inclusive social activities for a range of communities facing loneliness and social isolation, including Wycliffe Coffee and Craft, Refugee Support Group, Change Grow Live, ACRE Men’s Group and Together for Mental Wellbeing
  • It will be an opportunity for people to find out more about services that can support their clinets and members, and other service users who are experiencing loneliness.
  • The programme will include time for informal networking and an opportunity to share news, promote your service and find out about funding, events and training. Refreshments provided.
