After the success of their 2021 campaign, No5 is back with their #5KinMay 2022 challenge

No5 provides free and confidential counselling and mental health supporting for young people aged 11–25 who live, work or study in the ‘RG’ postcode area, and during last year’s lockdowns No5’s Young Ambassadors devised the #5KinMay challenge to help support people to stay active and keep up a routine to support their mental health and wellbeing.

This year, to help tackle loneliness and support wellbeing, as well as raising vital funds to support No5’s work and meet the ever-growing demand, No5’s team are challenging anyone who wants to get involved to ‘achieve 5K’ throughout May and help them reach their fundraising target of £5,000. The £5,000 fundraising target will directly fund 4 months of counselling for 5 young people and 20 mental health workshops delivered to groups of 30 in local schools.

One of No5’s Young Ambassadors, has already set the bar high by committing to walk and/or run 5K every day throughout May! About the challenge, he said:

I hope by doing the #5KinMay 2022 challenge we can help raise even more awareness about the great work that No5 does. I am proud to be a Young Ambassador and I am ready for the challenge!!

There are lots of ways to get involved such as:
  • Read 5,000 pages – get a book club together and get reading!
  • Walk 5,000 steps – every day for a week, or throughout the whole month
  • Write a short 5,000 word story
  • Do 5,000 star jumps
  • Bake 5,000 cookies and run a bake sale
  • Score 5,000 goals – head down to a local pitch throughout the month to try and reach 5,000 goals scored, this doesn’t have to be just football you could do even do netball or rugby!
  • Make 5,000 paper stars – you can then string them up as décor too!
  • Or anything else you or a group of people can do 5,000 times!
Carly Newman, No5’s Operations and Relationships Manager said:

We are so excited about this year’s #5KinMay challenge and really looking forward to celebrating all the amazing challenges people set themselves! The number of young people asking for help for their mental health has risen sharply as a result of the pandemic, with No5 receiving almost 1,000 referrals throughout 2021. The money raised throughout the challenge will go directly to making sure young people have the help they need more quickly.
