Treasurer required to look after our finances

Finance volunteer needed for Stroke Association in RG2

The Reading Stroke Support Group plays an important role in ensuring that stroke survivors, their families and carers do not become socially isolated. It helps to build confidence and self-esteem and aims to assist them in achieving their personal goals for a full life after stroke.

The group organises various activities which may involve a financial aspect, for example talks by paid-for speakers, trips and outings, fund raising and awareness events.

The group requires a treasurer to look after its finances. The responsibilities of the treasurer include:

  • Paying volunteer expenses
  • Paying in cheques and petty cash at a bank and withdrawing cash.
  • Keeping the group’s accounts spreadsheet up to date in accordance with the Stroke Association’s procedures (training will be given).
  • Submitting monthly and end-of-year reports.

Group meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, from 10am till 12pm but it will not be necessary to attend every meeting. In fact it may be possible to not attend any meetings at all. However it is likely that occasional meetings with the group’s leader or other volunteers would be required to hand over petty cash, cheques, etc. Also attendance at the group’s committee meetings, held no more than once per month at the local Stroke Association office on Northumberland Avenue, may be required.

If wished, the treasurer can of course take a fuller part in volunteering at group meetings. Further details of this can be supplied on request.
