Use your administration skills to make a difference

Administration volunteers needed for British Red Cross – Thames Valley Area in RG1

If you enjoy working in an office and want to make a real difference to the lives of refugees, this is the role for you!

As a Refugee Support Admin volunteer you would be helping the Refugee Support Team as they support refugees and asylum-seekers to adjust to life in a new country and access vital services. Typical tasks include:

  • Assisting the Refugee Support project coordinator with setting up activities
  • Creating information packs or collating resources for the department and service users
  • Helping with record keeping and other administrative tasks.

You need to have good interpersonal, diplomacy, communication and teamwork skills although full training will be given for any technical requirements. You will also need to be:

  • A good communicator and empathetic about the situation and needs of refugees
  • Able to keep the service user at the heart of what you do, supporting the Red Cross to understand service user needs and the difference our role makes.
  • Knowledgeable about database systems
  • Able to speak good English; plus knowledge of a foreign language would be useful (particularly one used in the current local refugee population)
  • Willing to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and adhere to the Society’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

Successful candidates must be able to attend the Foundation Training Programme on 8, 9 & 10 July.
