In 1990, after much work, a nurse and doctor from the Rheumatology ward at Battle Hospital, Reading, along with other local volunteers, much fundraising and some generous bequests, set up Reading Charity ‘Arthros’, to help Reading residents living with chronic Arthritis.
Together the trustees worked to support local residents with grants for equipment, and appliances, to enable them to live more independently at home. Arthros’ dedicated trustees continued to provide support to local residents in need for the next 3 decades.
In 2025 Arthros relaunched, with changes that aimed to reflect the current needs of those living with Arthritis in the Reading area. The trustees play an important role in making sure the charity is run for those it is there to support, and with fundraising, to enable grants towards aids and appliances that may be of help to local residents living with Arthritis.
