This short course provides an introduction to practical casework approaches. We will cover the key knowledge and tools needed to work effectively and compassionately with clients who hoard.
Through real-world examples and practical strategies, the training will build confidence in engaging with clients, assessing risks, and creating achievable action plans.
The session will also highlight pathways for multi-agency working and referral, ensuring practitioners know where and how to access specialist support services. Emphasis will be placed on respectful, person-centred approaches that balance safety with client autonomy, helping to build trust and support lasting change.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise hoarding as both a mental health and safeguarding concern
- Assess risk in a structured, practical way
- Apply engagement strategies and planning tools
- Identify referral routes and partnership opportunities
