We are at Reading Festival again this year, and we are going even bigger!

We have an AIRHUB onsite, hosting football matches for festival goers and an onsite run club. We are looking for volunteers to help run all of these activities, below are the volunteer role descriptions and commitments needed in order to receive your free weekend wristband – that’s right, all volunteers that help will get the chance to enjoy the music at the festival! Acts including Chappell Roan, Bring Me The Horizon, Travis Scott and many more!

AIRHUB volunteers

Sport in Mind are going to have an AIRHUB at this years’ Reading Festival and we are looking for a team of volunteers to help support the event. The role will include helping set up our AIRHUB, aiding festival goers that might be struggling with poor mental health and offering them a safe place to take time out.

We can offer them a cup of tea and a chat, or just a quiet seat. We aim to spread awareness of Sport in Mind, being a charity that was founded in Reading, it would be great to raise our profile in the local community.

Volunteers will be asked to commit to x5 6-hour shifts, ensuring there is a 12-hour gap between each shift. All volunteers that help at the event, will be given free weekend ticket to the festival and the option to camp on-site in staff camping.

Each of the 4 teams will have a member of Sport in Mind staff/experienced volunteer as a Team Leader, and teams will consist of 4 Sport in Mind representatives. Volunteers will be given Sport in Mind merchandise to wear whilst on shift at the AIRHUB.

The volunteer role can be intense at times, you may come across intoxicated festival goers, safeguarding concerns, different weather conditions, and challenging night shifts. Last year, we received great feedback from volunteers who said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and found it rewarding.

Football match volunteers

Sport in Mind will also be running football matches for the festival goers out of the Rivermead Leisure Centre next door to the festival. This is due to Festival Republic rebranding the campsites and trying to give festival goers more activities to do, to help encourage healthy choices and reduce anti-social behaviour.

As Sport in Mind has expertise in running football sessions, it makes sense for us to take the lead. The volunteer role will include ensuring the football matches run smoothly, refereeing, ballboy/ballgirl, organising teams, keeping scores, setting up/putting away and anything else that pops up on the day! We will have a hub at the football pitches where we can promote good mental health and provide mental health support to those who need it. We are extremely excited to be given this opportunity!
