Would you like to volunteer your time to help children that struggle to read?

Learning support / Mentoring volunteers needed for ABC to read (Assisting Berkshire Children to Read)

ABC to read is a charity that gives one-to-one literacy support to children in primary schools in the most deprived areas of Berkshire. We recruit, train and support community volunteers who ideally dedicate two sessions per week during term time only for at least a year, reading, chatting and playing games.

The children are selected by their teachers to work with our reading helpers on a one-to-one basis outside of the classroom environment to give them an opportunity to catch up. Some of the children are living in areas of significant deprivation, have lost confidence, are shy or do not speak English at home and some just need a boost to help them catch up. We provide our volunteers with three initial training sessions and an introduction to a local school with regular support.

If you enjoy reading and want to help children gain one the most essential skills for success in life then please join us.

We also have an employee volunteering scheme and welcome approaches from companies.
