Gardening / Outdoor work volunteers needed for Launchpad Reading

Love the Outdoors and enjoy supporting others? This role maybe the one for you.

Spring has arrived and Summer is on its way! Launchpad Reading are seeking a volunteer(s) to work with our Allotment & Healthy Living Coordinator who manages gardens at our partner hostels, getting the clients outdoors, exercising and learning new life skills.

Tasks will include:

  • Helping hostel clients with garden tasks – tasks can vary from light to heavy work (weeding, laying sleepers, digging a pond ,etc…)
  • listening to clients and being supportive
  • assisting the Allotment and Healthy Living Coordinator with planning for the seasons
  • helping in the allotment and gardens around Reading and in various hostels.

Ideal candidates for this role will need to be enthusiastic and willing to have fun with those they are helping, be able to help with the full range of tasks from weeding to heavy manual labour and be a great team worker. Some basic horticultural knowledge is desirable but not essential.

As a Launchpad volunteer you will need to be able to work calmly and deal in a calm and professional manner with any difficult situations that arise, without panic or aggression.

Given the variability of British weather the ability to muck in come rain or shine is essential.
