Trustee / Committee volunteers needed for Reading Advice Network in RG6

Can you help Reading Advice Network grow and develop? We are looking for new trustees to join our board.

The Reading Advice Network (RAN) was established in February 2016 following a two-year project funded by the Big Lottery. Working with others in the Reading voluntary sector who give information and advice, it aims to improve the quality of the information and advice, to make it easier for Reading people to find that information and to act as a focal point for others in the sector who provide information and advice services.

At present thirteen organisations belong to the Network – Age UK Berkshire, Age UK Reading, British Red Cross, Citizens Advice Reading, CommuniCare, Dingley’s Promise, East Midlands Carers Trust, Graft (Thames Valley), Healthwatch Reading, Launchpad, Reading Community Welfare Rights Unit, Reading Mencap and Reading Refugee Support Group.

The Network has developed an independently-assessed Quality Standard, which all Members commit to achieving. Reading Borough Council has made achievement of this Standard, or a suitable alternative, a requirement for all the organisations giving advice and information to which it awards contracts. The Network also organises regular Advice Forums, at which members and non-members can come together to discuss issues of common concern. Recent topics have included ‘Homelessness in Reading’ and ‘Working with service users with mental health needs’.

The Trustee Board is the governing body that sets the strategic priorities for the organisation, decides its policies and provides overall leadership. Applicants will need a commitment to the aims of the network, together with the ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise sound judgement, participate actively in discussion and communicate clearly.

If you like to be challenged and have skills and experience in one or more of the following areas – financial management, fundraising, IT, publicity, charity law and campaigning – we are looking for people like you. There will be an induction programme for all new Trustees.
