The Friends of Reading Museum is looking to recruit a volunteer Project Organiser, for approximately eight hours a week, to help us deliver an exciting new project for young people. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to start the development of a new Young Friends Club.
The Friends exist to create a greater awareness of Reading Museum, and to promote the importance of the Museum’s collections and their presentation to the community. We raise funds for the purchase of artworks and artefacts and support activities which would not otherwise be possible.
Currently, all the friends of Reading museums are adults. As a start, we want to bring in young people by forming a section for 8–12 year olds. The idea is that we set up a Saturday club, once or twice a quarter, which has the potential to develop further.
The volunteer would work with existing FoRM members to deliver the project. This would mean developing the means by which young people hear about and apply to join the club, dealing with applications, communicating with parents and keeping records. In addition, assistance in working with the children in the club would be welcome but not essential.
The club would provide opportunities for children from all backgrounds, without discrimination, in a safe environment, where F0RM’s policies, practices and ethos encourage all members to adopt an inclusive, friendly approach.
The role would be ideal for someone:
- Looking for experience in the museums and charity sectors
- who enjoys working with adults and possibly children
- with access to a PC with suitable IT skills.
