Help support our range of weekly activities for people aged 50+

Support volunteers needed for Age UK Berkshire

Age UK Berkshire offers a programme of weekly activity sessions open to people aged 50+. Led by qualified instructors, activities include gentle sports, Nordic Walking, yoga and Tai Chi classes, and a singing group. Each session needs at least one volunteer to help with the smooth running of the group.

Volunteers usually:

  • Open the room and help set up chairs/tables/equipment
  • Welcome participants, take the register and collect session fees
  • Help ensure participants are comfortable and safe during the session – providing water, making sure they are not too hot/cold, etc.
  • Help new joiners to fill out a registration form
  • Alert the instructor to any concern you may have about a participant
  • Provide refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) after the session (not for all activities)
  • Clear away after the session and leave the area clean, tidy and secure

No experience is required, but you should be:

  • Kind, caring and friendly
  • Organised and reliable
  • Willing to help older people and to participate in training is
  • Able to work as part of a team, but also unsupervised at times
  • Sociable and a good communicator
  • Able to attend regularly, or to let the coordinator know in good time if you are not available so that cover can be arranged
