“We really can’t express enough how much of a lifeline you throw to parents in need and we will always be very grateful for the skills we have learnt.” These words from a service user capture the difference that Parenting Special Children (PSC) has been making to Berkshire families for over a decade. Now, the trustees are looking for a committed individual or individuals, with an understanding of the needs of families with children with additional needs, to expand its dedicated team.
PSC is a Reading-based charity that provides support and information to families Berkshire-wide on issues related to parenting children and young people with special needs, and with particular expertise in sleep, ASD, ADHD and the needs of looked after and adopted children.
Support is provided in the form of courses, workshops, telephone support, conferences and events. The charity has grown year-on-year since its beginnings 11 years ago and has worked hard to build a strong reputation among local commissioners as well as with funders, both local and national.
The trustees have responsibility for the governance of the charity, including close monitoring of the finances and oversight of policies and procedures, as well as leading on the strategic direction and ensuring the sustainability of the charity in a challenging funding landscape.
Meetings take place every month and are currently held on Thursday mornings at our offices in South Reading.
If you are familiar with the Berkshire area, have experience of working in a business or professional environment, have some understanding of the issues facing families with additional needs, and have some time to commit to helping PSC to keep on developing, then we would love to hear from you for an informal chat.
