With the Reading Abbey Ruins re-opening on 16 June, our tour guides will be vital in bringing the Abbey Quarter’s rich history to life for our visitors.
We are looking for people to share our enthusiasm for the site where King Henry I was buried, Jane Austen was taught and Oscar Wilde was imprisoned.
As part of the ‘Reading Abbey Revealed’ Heritage Lottery Fund and council funded project, Reading Museum is running a summer programme of Reading Abbey Quarter and Abbey Gateway outdoor guided tours for the public and additional tours for pre-booked groups.
We are looking for people to
- Help visitors discover more by telling interesting facts, stories and anecdotes relevant to the Reading Abbey Quarter and its history
- Learn about the rich history of Reading Abbey, how it was built, who lived there and visited the site and sharing this with our visitors
- Adapt tours as necessary to meet the needs of different audiences, including any access and inclusion requirements they may have
- Attend tour guide training and workshops
- Promote other guided tours and encourage visitors to book tickets for these and other activities run by Reading Museum
- Give any other appropriate assistance as may be reasonably requested
- Become familiar with and follow the Reading Museum’s health and safety policy at all times
