We are seeking volunteers to provide support for older people who live in the Reading area by doing a weekly/fortnightly/monthly shop(s) as part of the Age UK Reading Shopping Scheme.

Many older people experience chronic loneliness in later life and, as a result, experience a decline in well being and associated health impacts. Age UK’s shopping service is there to offer a support network for these people.

A shopper will be called by the shopping coordinator to ask if they are available to shop for a client with prior notice. The location is generally within the postcode of the shopper. If they are, the appropriate paperwork would be emailed through to the volunteer setting out who they are shopping for . An idea of the size of the shop would be established and the nearest or preferred location to shop ( if the volunteer is agreeable).
