People facing their last year of life can often become isolated, feel lonely and need some extra support. Become a volunteer befriender and ensure that people aren’t facing the challenge of a life limiting illness alone.

– Friendly and approachable, with a sensitive and caring manner
– Reliable and emotionally resilient
– Able to use you’re their own initiative
You could help someone spend the time they have left in the way they choose by:
– Providing support, companionship and conversation
– Sharing an activity or interest (e.g. craft, films)
– ‘Being there’ while the carer takes a break
– Providing company on short trips (e.g. shopping, coffee, cinema)
– Helping with light housework (e.g. hanging washing out)
– Helping with gardening (e.g. mowing the lawn)
– Picking up shopping
– Picking up prescriptions
You can visit the person you befriend at a time that suits you both and visits don’t have to be at the same day/time each week.
Visits could be between half an hour to a couple of hours, depending on the needs of the person you’re befriending.
Full training, support and monthly supervisions with a counsellor are provided.
