Coffee and Craft is part of Wycliffe Baptist Church in Reading and has 20 years’ experience in partnering with local schools to support their students. We have recently received funding from the UK Government to run the “Welcoming new Hongkongers to Reading” community project until the end of June 2022, supporting the British National (Overseas) status holders and their families to successfully settle and integrate in their new communities.

Reading and Wokingham have one of the biggest communities from Hong Kong in the UK and many schools have enrolled BN(O) children into their schools over the last 12 months. We would like to work with local schools to see how we can provide support for the Hong Kong students through this community project.

As part of our education integration activities, we propose to run a ‘Every Child Welcome in Reading’ programme to promote and facilitate extra-curricular events for BN(O) children in local schools to help children develop conversational English and access pastoral support. We also look to host a ‘Parent Support Event’ to help BN(O) parents to talk through their experiences and build community with school teachers and local parents.
