Do you want to make a difference?
An enthusiastic Trustee required for Resolve, a Charity providing mediation and conflict resolution services to the community.
These are unprecedented times, producing increased conflict and stress in the community and within families. At Resolve we work at the sharp end of such societal problems making the role we play in helping to restore harmony and bring people together more important than ever in these difficult times.
Our main services are:
- mediating neighbour disputes, sometimes involving whole communities
- helping families and young people who are not getting on at home through mediation and conflict coaching
- mediating in the workplace between colleagues
Over the years we have developed many courses to train people in conflict resolution skills. These include:
- a course for those who would like to volunteer as community mediators or progress to paid work in this field
- a course providing training in the basic skills of mediation and conflict resolution to 40 University Law School students each year
- courses for school students of various ages to help them build positive and cooperative relationships and deal better with resolving disputes with peers
- bespoke courses for companies looking to enhance the way employees handle conflict and work together.
We are looking to add a Trustee to our small and engaged Trustee Board. If you think creatively, have good independent judgement, are a good listener and communicator and would, as a Trustee, enjoy helping a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers to improve people’s lives and reduce conflict in the community, then we will be interested in speaking to you.
We would expect those interested in joining us as a Trustee to:
- Be aware of, or become versed in, the advantages of mediation and conflict resolution as a way of improving people’s lives and society.
- Support our values and ethos.
- Understand and respect the boundaries between executive and governance functions.
- Act reasonably and responsibly and to be able to make collective decisions and stand by them.
- Be able to analyse information and when necessary challenge constructively.
- Maintain confidentiality on sensitive issues.
- Interact constructively with the Management, Office Team and Mediators.
- Recognise that being a Trustee for a small Charity will involve a commitment beyond just attending Trustee meetings. Trustees are expected to prepare adequately for meetings and to contribute beyond their attendance at meetings in some practical way.
If this position is of interest we would very much like to talk to you.
