We need Youth Offender Panel Members who can represent their local community and make a difference to young people’s lives.
Referral Order panels are for young people who commit crime and receive a Referral Order as a sentence at Court. You can help challenge these young people to take responsibility for their actions and help change their behaviour.
Trained volunteers work with young people, their parents and victims. Panel members will talk and listen to create a plan of action designed to repair harm and prevent future offending and review the progress of this plan at regular intervals.
Panels aim to:
- Ensure young people take responsibility for their behaviour.
- Help put things right for the victim.
- Bring young people back into the law-abiding community.
The nature of Referral Order panels means that how frequently volunteers are required can fluctuate. The majority of panels need to take place between 3.30pm and 6pm, although there is a need for some panels to take place outside these times.
Panel members are welcomed from all ethnic and social backgrounds. Good spoken English and communication skills required.
Potential volunteers need to attend an information session on 09/10/17 at either 10am-12pm or 5:30-7:30pm.
Potential volunteers need t be able to attend all of the 8 days initial training over two weeks in November 2017.
The majority of panels take place between 3.30pm and 6pm although some may be at other times
