Could you be a listening ear for our callers?
Support volunteers needed for Reading Samaritans in RG1
Listening volunteers wanted to provide emotional support to people in distress or despair. You will need to be non-judgemental, patient, calm, not try to solve problems or give advice. We need listening volunteers to do duties at different times from 7.45am-2.30am every day and also through to 6.45am some days.
Samaritans aims to provide a 24 hour service and our volunteers can choose any shifts they like within the times given. They might do different shifts at different times of the month or stick with a favourite time. Every month we will put out a shift rota and volunteers are asked to sign up for the month ahead. So we have vacancies at all times, but flexibility is valuable and night shifts are very valuable to us.
If you can spare about 4 to 5 hours per week including a night shift occasionally then this may be for you.
Volunteers will receive Samaritans’ highly regarded training to support them in their role.
