Help our residents get the most out of life!
Abbeyfield Reading is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer trustee to help us enhance the quality of life for older people. We believe that we all deserve to enjoy our later years and get the most out of life – whatever our individual circumstances. Our charity fulfils this mission at Abbeyfield House, a care home, where we offer care, support and services in a friendly home-from-home environment to 28 residents. Our team has been working very hard over the last year to provide a high level of care during the COVID-19 crisis, protecting our residents and staff as much as possible.
To be a trustee of an organisation is an exciting and fulfilling role. The most effective boards are ones which benefit from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and skill sets. We are particularly looking for someone with experience of the care or health sectors, ideally related to older people.
The role of a Trustee is to ensure that our Society fulfils its duty to its residents and delivers on our vision, mission and values. There will be plenty of scope for you to make a significant contribution to the continued success of the charity and the chance to get involved in small projects. Depending on what activities or projects you wish to get involved in the role might take 5-10 hours a month and the board meets around six times a year.
We will require references and we’ll need to conduct a DBS check. Trustee appointments will be reviewed annually, and newly inducted trustees should expect to serve for no more than two terms of three years. While the role is unpaid, reasonable expenses are payable in line with Abbeyfield’s standard expenses policy.
Abbeyfield is committed to supporting its trustee and provides a thorough induction to the organisation and role. You will be expected to attend some training events relevant to the role, as necessary.
