The Cowshed offers free, high-quality essential items like clothing, bedding, and toiletries to those in personal crisis. Our goal is to meet immediate material needs and provide assistance during tough times. We have centres in Hurst and Reading, and deliver directly to our clients across Berkshire. We also offer in-person prom and bra fittings.

Our services are available to families in financial hardship, the homeless, refugees, and other vulnerable groups, referred by professionals. We receive referrals from over 200 organisations across Berkshire, including all six unitary authorities.

We also have a wonderful community arts and crafts group where volunteers repurpose textiles like bedding, unusable clothing, and damaged curtains into referral bags and other items. The group not only supports the main charity but also teaches sewing skills to anyone interested.
