Sustrans

Sustrans is a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day. We work with families, communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so that people are able to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in.

Our vision is a world in which people choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and our environment.
Our mission is to influence practice and shape policy so everyone can travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day.

The National Cycle Network is a great success story. Over 13,500 miles have been completed so far, a third of which is dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists. While nearly 60% of people now live within a mile of the Network, our ambition is to extend it into the heart of communities throughout the UK giving people the choice of healthy, cleaner and cheaper journeys.

Our volunteers are our eyes and ears in communities throughout the UK – over 3,500 people who give their free time to support Sustrans. Many maintain and sign the National Cycle Network to enable as many people as possible to use it, others support our work within schools, communities and workplaces, and others help the charity to be more financially sustainable by holding fundraising events.
