The Children’s Emergency Department, both ‘hot’ (those presenting with Covid-19 symptoms) and ‘cold’ (those presenting without Covid-19 symptoms) has moved to the Pain Clinic which is behind the Endoscopy Department. Access for walk-ins and non-blue light ambulances is via the south wing car park entrance. Blue light ambulances will access via the Endoscopy entrance.
For context, the adult Emergency Department has now been divided into ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ areas. ‘hot’ patients are seen in the existing Emergency Department area, now called ‘hot ED’ and ‘cold’ patients are seen in the new ‘cold ED’ which is located in the Endoscopy Department. South Central Ambulance Service have been fully briefed and there is additional signposting to help patients navigate to the correct area.
We have reduced visiting to 1 parent/guardian per child per day for all paediatric inpatients and parent/guardian overnight stays are still acceptable and are encouraged. Visiting decisions remain at the discretion of the nurse in charge of the shift.
Outpatient activity including antenatal care
The majority of appointments are being conducted remotely via video conferencing. Teams are risk-assessing the case loads and identifying some patients to come for face-to-face appointments. RBFT has been contacting patients with instructions for how to access their appointment.
