Reading Threshold of Need – online briefing for staff and volunteers working with children, young people and families

The Reading Threshold of Need briefing is aimed at anyone who works with children, young people and families in Reading. This includes paid staff and volunteers. It is suitable for those who might be new to their role and/or new to the Reading area and more experienced staff or volunteers who want to refresh their knowledge and understanding.

The aim of the briefing is to:
  • Support you to be familiar with the Reading Threshold of Need document.
  • Support your understanding of the children and young people’s continuum of need and appropriate responses.
  • Increase your knowledge of the services and support available to you for working with children, young people and families with different needs.
  • Provide guidance on completing notifications to the Children’s Single Point of Access.
How long is the briefing and how do I access it?

You will need to set aside around an hour and you can access it at a time that is convenient for you. Send your name, role, the organisation you work for and confirm your email address to We will respond within 5 working days providing you with a link to the Briefing.

A. Yes, but you must provide their names, role, organisation and individual email addresses.

Q. Does this replace universal safeguarding training?
A. No, the Briefing is in addition to the universal safeguarding training.

Q. Will I get a certificate?
A. Yes, we will send you a certificate when we receive your completed feedback form. The link to the feedback form will be sent in the same email as access to the Briefing.
