Reading FC’s Kicks – Reading Summer Youth Activities

Reading’s Youth Summer Activities are on the horizon! In the weeks running up to our summer events we thought we would tell you more about the groups working with us – to give you an insight into their world and what you could get involved in. Today’s focus is on all things football with Reading Football Club’s Kicks.

Reading Football Club’s Community Trust inclusion department are responsible for delivering to 300 young people on a weekly basis through four main pillars of activities – Health, Sports Participation, Community Cohesion/Social Inclusion and Education, helping to engage with young people within the local communities.

Their main objective is to provide Kicks participants with the opportunity to have continuous FREE open access sessions though the week, providing safe sessions with quality educational workshops.

Using the power of football and the appeal of Reading FC’s brand, Kicks aims to engage young males and females, who may otherwise be difficult to reach. The Kicks vision is ‘To target some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country in order to create safer, stronger, more respectful communities through the development of young people.’ Their focus is entirely on the individuals who attend their sessions, it’s not just about football at Kicks, they care about the well-being of all their young people.

There is no cost to attend any of their sessions all year round – no matter where you live, no matter your age or income, you can participate in football for FREE! At each Kicks session you can expect professional coaching to improve your fitness and football skills. You will have the opportunity to play as a football team with your peers, making you feel like part of a community. Coaching isn’t all they do; the main aim is to have fun! Kicks use football as a means for young people to engage with others and enjoy themselves away from any pressures.

Reading FC’s Community Trust also offers traineeship courses, sports leadership courses, mentoring and much more. It isn’t just exercise they offer; they have a wide range of programmes that can help young people prepare for their futures. For more information on all their social inclusion work visit their website.

If you’re interested, then please sign up to any of their free Kicks sessions available all year round or to our free summer sessions! Kicks are working with Reading Voluntary Action to further their reach across all of Reading.
