Earlier on in the year we shared the One Reading Children and Young People’s Partnership Strategy with you.  The strategy sets out the partnership’s commitment to providing children, young people and families with the right help, at the right time, in the right place and most importantly as early as possible.  Knowing how best to help and support children, young people and families can be difficult if you’re not sure where to start or what is out there. This is where the Partnership Outreach Workers come in.

Geraldine Teer and Rob Bruce, Partnership Outreach Workers, are there to provide support to you (those working with children, young people and families) get the help and support families need as early as a difficulty or problem arises. Geraldine and Rob have begun building their relationships with partners in Reading, promoting their role and the support the partnership can provide in offering earlier intervention for children, young people and families.

One of the opportunities they offer is for schools to hold a consultation meeting with their Partnership Outreach Worker, to discuss children, young people and families who attend their setting.  This forum provides the space to share ideas and explore what support may be available to families who are presenting with additional needs. This may include signposting to partners such as Parenting Special Children, Young Carers, or accessing the Supporting Families Employment Advisors, for example.

Currently, Geraldine and Rob offer support via these forums in five primary schools (English Martyrs Catholic Primary, Thameside Primary, Southcote Primary, New Town Primary and St Johns Primary) and three secondary schools (Thames Valley, Maiden Erlegh Reading and Reading Girls).  They are available for any school and can be arranged by emailing OneReading@brighterfuturesforchildren.org  where we can put you in touch with your locality Partnership Outreach worker.
