Celebrating Real Jobs: University design exhibition on until 28 June

Primary interest
Arts and Crafts

The Department of Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading has an exhibition on until 28 June celebrating typography students’ contribution to local businesses, charities and academic projects over five decades of their Real Jobs scheme.

The department’s professional experience programme gives students their first taste of working alongside clients to co-create, and deliver on, a design brief. Graduates report that their experiences on these projects expose them to unique and powerful moments that help them secure their first paid positions, and continue to inform their professional practice.

For local charities and community groups who have limited budgets but generous time frames, Real Jobs offers the chance to get some first-rate professional design and marketing support, and to help students to become better designers. Students are supervised through these real jobs by members of academic staff – who are also practicing designers. Instead of a design fee, Real Jobs ask for a donation (minimum £100).
