Reading, West Berkshire, and Wokingham local authorities are working together to refresh the way residents access stop smoking support.
Smoking causes 17% of all deaths in people aged 35 and over. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body causing lung cancer, respiratory disease, and heart disease as well as numerous cancers in other organs. If you smoke, you generally have an increased risk of contracting respiratory infection and of more severe symptoms once infected. Therefore, it is thought that Covid-19 symptoms may be more severe if you smoke.
Why we want your views
We know 60% of people who currently smoke want to quit, and with the right support, a smoker is up to four times more likely to successfully quit than if they attempted alone.
We view supporting our residents to stop smoking as critical at this time, and would like to understand your experiences of the existing services and hear your thoughts on how we can best support people to stop smoking.
The survey should take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete, and your feedback will be used to form part of a report that assesses the needs of our smoking population and helps to understand how our current services are working. This will be used to refresh delivery of our stop smoking support across Reading, West Berkshire and Wokingham from October 2021.
