Due to popular demand, RVA is arranging two financial training courses this autumn, which would be ideal for anyone who is in a treasurer position in a local charity or community group offering services in Reading:

  • Basic Bookkeeping – 24 September, 10am – 12.30am
  • Treasurer Training – 8 October, 10am – 12.30am
Why should I attend?

All charity and community groups need to prepare a set of accounts and depending on whether you are registered or not, you also need to file these at the Charity Commission. If you are presently applying for funding, you will undoubtedly have been asked for your last set of accounts. If this is something you have been struggling with, the above courses will help you understand how to approach this and set up a system that works for you, depending on your charity size, as well as looking at practical exercises and what requirements you need to fulfil.

Which course should I attend?

We would suggest that if you are a small community group, with little to no experience of preparing accounts that you may wish to start with Basic Bookkeeping. If you are a registered charity or have some experience of bookkeeping already, then Treasurer Training would be more appropriate.

Who will run the sessions and how much does it cost?

The sessions will be run by Rachel Eden of Holybrook Associates. Rachel is a chartered accountant and has considerable experience of charity accounts. She has been running regular treasurer training for RVA for a few years. The sessions will take place online.

RVA has negotiated a lower rate for Reading charities of £40 per session (reduced online rate). Don’t forget you can normally include training costs in funding applications, if these relate to the scope of work and it is not retrospective. Just be sure to check the criteria in funding applications. If you need guidance on this or have questions about which training option is best for you, contact

How can I book?

Full details and booking links for both training sessions will be available online by the first week of September. Please save the date for now if you wish to attend, or email your preference to and we’ll get in touch with you.
